Sustainable in Beijing: “Live With Less” Holds Autumn Exchange Drive on Sep 8 (Sat)

Many expats in my network have been promoting sustainability and conservation — and this is just one of the things that encourages me to take part in protecting our environment. There are clothing swaps for women and there are zero-waste markets and fairs. But what about for young adults?

Luckily, there’s a group that organizes a clear-out drive where anybody can participate in. Live With Less runs seasonal swap events where you can get treasures and make new friends. I’ve been to several Live With Less drives and gotten great finds and fantastic books in exchange for clothing and home stuff that I don’t use anymore.

Their autumn edition happens on September 8 (Saturday) from 11am to 5pm. It’s best if you bring a big tote bag because once you start picking up items — from clothing, children’s playthings and books, to electronics and household goods — it’ll be addicting. But again, the main purpose of this swap event is just to take whatever you need and drop off your extra stuff.

What if you don’t have extra stuff at home, then? Well, you can bake cookies or prepare samples of your native cuisine and share them with everybody at the swap event. After all, this is how Live With Less thrives as it not only raises awareness about being sustainable in Beijing but also promotes a feeling of community.
