Who knew that eggs can be used as a decoration for your Christmas trees? Teacher Ana Kohnen, M.A., Ed, from House of Knowledge Schools and Kindergartens, told beijingkids that she used to make these egg-cellent ornaments when she was young. Her energetic Grade 2 student, six-year-old Sam Shao, helped us make this holiday project. And it turned out to be so much fun that the cute Sam even dressed up as a little Santa Claus! The project can be done in about one hour and is suitable for kids age 6 and above.
Materials
Eggs of different sizes (duck or goose eggs work best), hot glue gun, glue, glitter, paint and paintbrushes, wire, cotton, a tool (like a fork) to make a small hole, and small figurines
Step 1
Prepare and clean the eggs. Make a small hole on top of the egg, and empty the yolks and put them in a bowl. You can make an omelet with the eggs.
Step 2
Rinse and clean the eggshells. Let them dry overnight, or use a hair dryer to dry them.
Step 3
Paint the eggshells with the color you desire. Place the wire in the small hole you made on the top. Twist the wire so it stays.
Step 4
Decorate the eggs! Add glitter as desired. Glue figurines or other decorations and cotton to make a miniature Christmas scene.
Step 5
Hang the eggshell ornaments on the tree and enjoy!
